Hobbo's 1500 m Handicap
Tonight was the Hobbo's 1500 m xmas handicap. First things first, arrived at the track a bit before 5.30 pm and headed off along the Williamstown Foreshore for a 6 km warm-up run in a time of around 30 mins. Pretty strong wind conditions.
After the warm-up, as per the last few runs I couldn't stop coughing for a good 5 or so minutes. This bloody cold/flu is determined to hang around.
Back at the track did heaps of stretching and 3 x 100 m strides (after coughing).
For the handicap I was off 3:45. Here are my splits:
- 0:57 (300 m)
- 1:23
- 1:35
- 1:29
That's a time of 5:26 which works out to a pace of 3:37/km. I was certainly pushing it as my heart rate maxed out at 183 and averaged 168 bpm. I noticed during the run that I started on a quick note and slowed during the middle portion and quickened for the last lap. Looking at the splits above confirms that.
I didn't win. I passed a few front-markers but quite a few back-markers swept passed me as well, including the winner Andrew Mills in a time of 4:44.
Ran a few cool down laps and then stayed for the BBQ.
All up tonight I ran 9.2 km for a combined time of 46:20.

Your cold sounds nasty, I imagine it would have made it difficult to run the race. Well done on getting out there and running a great time.
Bugger about getting sick at this time of year Steve but at least you're back into it now. Funny how the cough always hangs around for a while afterwards and its always after you STOP running that it gets you!
Take care, MAR.
Steve, it appears that you may very well have returned to running (training) a tad too early. I wonder what time you may have achieved if it wasn't for having a cold/flu at this time. Everyone here at my office is looking forward to you getting well and increasing your times in the near future. I'm not quite sure if you are aware just how popular you are around here. Best of luck overcoming your flu.
A slightly slower first 300 would help with the third lap. Even 62 seconds (which would feel a lot more comfortable) is 5:10 pace.
Catch up with you in the new year :)
