Week in review

Not an overly impressive week but I'm still reasonably happy considering. As some would know, I don't train or run to plans or schedules, I use the 'feel factor' as a guide. Well the 'feel factor' kicked in this week which resulted in less k's travelled and at a slower pace (excepting for today - Sunday).

For all my runs except today (Sunday) there was a consistent heart rate reaction for the first five minutes of every run. Normally, the heart rate should steadily rise when starting out, for some reason mine had regular spikes upwards of 170 and eventually settled down as the run progressed. I doubt very much that it was a gadget malfunction as it was the same behaviour for all runs.

By Thursday my headaches/eye-strain developed which prevented me from running and by Saturday I was still out of sorts which peeved me no end as I missed the Sandown 10 km classic. I was eyeing off this at an attempt to break the 40 minute mark. Found out later that Martin and Louise both broke their ducks in this regard slipping under 40 minutes for the first time.

Here's the week in summary.

For today's (Sunday) run I ran a blinder. 12.3 km around Werribee River and right from the get-go I wasn't messing around. Normally my first kilometre's are usually around 5:15, you know, easing into it type of stuff. Today it was 4:44 and then I upped the ante. Overall came home in 53:17 which is an average of 4:19/km. Despite my heart rate issues for my other runs this week, today was perfect and normal, considering the extra effort I only maxed out at 161 bpm (89%) and averaged 153 bpm (85%).

I think the rest days and reduced running paid dividends for today's run.

It's a shame you missed

It's a shame you missed Sandown - lots of PBs recorded. Not much you can do though if feeling off-colour.

I used to get those high readings early in a run - cured by simply tightening the strap to 'very' firm. Not sure if that's the problem, or something else. Strange.

Over-trianing

Re - the hr thing. I'm putting that down to maybe a sign of over-training. Yes, my strap is firmly and snugly attached.

A rest day or two can make a

A rest day or two can make a big difference, suprisingly it had the opposite effect for me today. It was a shame to hear that you couldn't have a crack at the 40 minute barrier, it would have been good to read about a PB, I haven't read about one for a while.

Sandown

For some reason I thought you were at GOR, a pity about Sandown, hopefully we will see you at La Trobe for the 15k er on Sunday 1 Jun.
